During the Middle Ages, feudalism was of course the dominant way of the economy. Power and freedom were directly proportional to each other, and this was no coincidence, as feudal forces, or lords, were most likely those who had poorer and wealth. Those who were serfs, whom were the servers to feudal lords, did not get even a remote amount of power compared to their feudal counterparts, and since inherently little to no freedom exists within a feudal and serfdom, it is fair to say that the two were always hand in hand and in no way equal.
